Book Loons Book Review

While still in her teens, Ellis Greene is the only witness to the vicious murder of her cousin Laura. Ellis's identification of the killer sends Hollis Alexander to prison for the next twenty-five years, mouthing the words 'you'll pay' as guards lead him away to serve his sentence.

Fifteen years have passed and Ellis has moved on with her life as best as she can, swearing she'll never become a victim. She's an expert in self-defence and teaches what she knows to other young girls in her hometown. Even so, the horrible crime that took her beloved cousin away has left a dark shadow over her family. Her aunt and uncle have divorced and Ellis's parents are constantly worried for her safety despite her many precautions. When Hollis Alexander is unexpectedly paroled, their nightmare begins all over again as young girls resembling Laura begin showing up dead.

Nate Vance left his hometown as a pariah, with only his childhood friend Ellis believing in him. His military background and security expertise give him the means to monitor Ellis over the years, but the moment he learns that Hollis Alexander is free, Nate heads home to personally see to Ellis's safety. But his well-laid plans go awry when he's framed for the new murders. He and Ellis are forced to re-examine the past as well as their feelings for each other. But when they realise they've always loved each other and reach for their chance at happiness, they find themselves dragged ever deeper into a killer's mad plan for revenge.

Susan Crandall has created a great cast of characters, particularly in her leads: while her inner conflict often reflects a good degree of fear and anger over a situation that's all but destroyed her family, Ellis Greene is no frightened wallflower. As for Nate, Crandall keeps readers guessing about his shadowy background and about the many secrets he's kept about Laura, secrets he's refused to divulge for fear of hurting Ellis and her family all over again. Great pacing, plenty of red herrings and the poignant love story that develops between the leads makes Seeing Red Crandall's best work thus far.

Publishers Weekly Book Review

Crandall keeps the tale taut and twisty, drawing a persuasive picture of a family distorted by unhealed grief and unrevealed secrets.

Romance Novel TV Book Review

5 STARS -- Any book that keeps me glued to the pages until 1:30am then keeps me awake thinking about it for another hour after I turn that final page has more than earned my highest rating of 5 stars. The fact that I'm still thinking about all the twists and turns of this romantic suspense story, not to mention the fact that I actually dreamt about it once I fell asleep, is a testament to the superb writing skill of the very talented Ms. Crandall.

The mystery grows deeper with every page and people, and situations are not always what they seem. The twists and turns of this spellbinding tale had me guessing until the very end. I highly recommend Susan Crandall's Seeing Red.

Romantic Times Magazine Book Review

Crandall weaves a tight and suspenseful story that will have readers guessing until the last chapter. Poignant in places and nail-bitingly tense in others, this is one of those books readers will want to finish in one sitting.

The Romance Readers Connection Book Review

SEEING RED is a fast paced thriller that will keep you guessing. Did the guy convicted do the crime? Or did someone else? Is Ellis falling in love with a ruthless killer or a harmless bystander? Piece by piece, the new crimes are brought to the forefront from looking at the past. But will Ellis and Nate find the killer in time? Or does Ellis already know who he is?

Susan Crandall writes in a way that each character brings to life humanness. Her descriptions of a childhood friendship are so vivid that you can easily see how Nate and Ellis fall right back into old times. It's just as if they were meant to be, and as if the smoke coming off the pages when they are together is evidence enough. SEEING RED will lead you down a fearful path of horrific crimes that could happen anywhere. Be careful and look out your window. Is someone watching? Are you SEEING RED?

Romance Reviews Today Book Review

...Another fascinating story by the talented Susan Crandall, SEEING RED will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Laura has never forgotten Nate, and as they investigate, she begins to see her cousin Laura in a different light. Although Nate is secretive about what he has been doing for the past fifteen years, he is determined to protect Ellis. He has never forgotten the friendship they shared years ago. They are both exemplary characters, and there is underlying sexual tension between them. Readers are sure to fall in love with Nate. Secondary characters, Hollis, Ellis’s uncle, and her parents all advance the story as the past is revealed and another murder occurs.

The dialogue and pacing are excellent, and readers will have their hearts in their throats as Ellis moves ever closer to the murderer and an exciting climax to the story. You can expect some surprises! SEEING RED is a riveting tale that you won’t want to put down and is highly recommended.

Book Reviews by Crystal Book Review

...Seeing Red by Susan Crandall is an intriguing Romantic Suspense that will keep you on your toes and turning the pages. There were many references to the past, but sometimes Ms. Crandall would say 15 years then 16 years and I’d soon get aggravated at the timeline, also there was one scene in particular that the electricity was out in the Plantation house, but somehow they ate scrambled eggs by candlelight and the next morning it was said the electricity was back on. Little indifferences like that really catch my eye when reviewing. But besides that it was a great story and the closer to the end you get the more suspenseful it is.

Darque Reviews Book Review

... Seeing Red is well-written and offers so many surprising twists that it will keep you guessing until the very end. Ms. Crandall moves her story along at a steady pace with danger around every turn. The characters are well defined and the chemistry between Ellis and Nate is sizzling. Seeing Red is heartbreaking as the troubled life of a young girl is brought to light, and the suspense of who victimized her will keep you at the edge of your seat.
